Prayers for Fr. José Rodríguez, may he rest in peace

Received from Louie this morning:

This morning, a great Carmelite scholar José Vicente Rodríguez passed away at age 96. P. Francisco Xavier de María, OCD, posted a private announcement on Facebook this morning. I just wish that ICS Publications would translate into English the enormous body of Carmelite scholarship that he has produced.

Yesterday, I just received his book that I ordered on the extensive biographies of the OCD martyrs of Toledo, who were pulled out of the convent during the Spanish Civil War and shot to death in the alley outside. The relics of the martyrs lay under the private chapel altar of the convent where we celebrated daily mass during the STJ500 pilgrimage in 2015. There I met P. Rodríguez and P. Francisco Xavier who was nearing ordination to the deaconate. When P. Rodriguez learned of my name, he pointed out that my uncle Julio Xavier Labayen, OCD, DD, was his classmate at the Teresianum in Rome. We had a wonderful conversation. He walked with a cane, but his mind was very sharp. Last year at the Mystic University in Ávila, I presented to him my uncle's book of collected talks on the subject of pastoral theology. He was not as sharp as he used to be and I sensed his health was on the decline. The Ávila publication picture below shows him on the right, and P. Romulo Cuartas Londoño, OCD is on the left. He was my thesis advisor and passed away a year ago after my collaboration with him. https://avilared.com/art/66198/obituario-jose-vicente-rodriguez-primer-director-del-cites-y-prior-de-la-santa
