Prayers for Maria Orallo, OCDS

From our Anthony (Louie) Labayen:

I am passing on a message from Cindy Sliger, former OCDS Provincial Council member, that Dr. Maria Orallo is in her final days and that we keep her in our thoughts and prayers. For those who haven't known this remarkable lady, she was as tireless a foundress as St. Teresa of Jesus.

She founded most of the OCDS communities in the Pacific Northwest all the way to Alaska and Hawaii. She was an outstanding practicing anesthesiologist and also taught at the UW School of Medicine. On top of her busy schedule, she drove alone in her car in spite of the weather to found OCDS communities in the PNW states, attending their monthly meetings in addition to her St Joseph community in Shoreline.

She was close to my uncle. Their birthdates were within 2 months of each other. She got to know my uncle Carmelite bishop as the prioress of St Joseph Carmel in Shoreline frequently requested her to pick up and take my uncle to Seatac airport whenever he came to give talks at the monastery. His flights were frequently very early in the morning, and Dr. Orallo said she was used to that in the operating room. This was many years before I even moved my family to Puget Sound in 1995, after which, I took over airport duty.

A few years ago, she already entrusted to me her Carmelite memorabilia, which I will entrust to our community on Sunday at our meeting.

United in prayer,

Antonio Labayen, OCDS ---------- Forwarded message --------- De: <csliger@comcast.net> Date: dom, 20 mar 2022 a las 17:11 Subject: RE: In Avila To: Antonio Labayen <llabayen7352@gmail.com> Dear Louie, I want to inform you that I have received a message from Sam, Maria’s son that she is close to death. He is asking that we please keep her in our prayers. I visited her a couple of days ago, and she is currently unresponsive, has not eaten for several days and the hospice nurse says that she is in final transition. She is comfortable and sleeping. We have prayed with her, sang the Salve Regina, and read some Psalms. The priest has visited her and many rosaries are being said for her. I wanted you to be informed and join us in prayer! God bless you! Cindy
